THE HISTORY OF INTERNATIONAL PHILIPPINE SCHOOL IN AL-KHOBAR
The International Philippine School in Al Khobar (IPSA) formerly known as Philippine Embassy School in Al-Khobar (PESA) was founded in September 1988 by a group of Filipino parents, who lived in the vicinity of Al Khobar. PESA formally started its academic operation in June 1989 with a Temporary Permit No. 001 s. 1989 issued by the Philippine Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS) signed by Secretary Lourdes Quisumbing.
On July 25, 1989, the Chief of the Philippine Mission in Riyadh, Dr. Mauyag Moh鈥檇 Tamano sent a letter to the Saudi Government Officials assigned in the Eastern Province to inform them of the intent to put up a Philippine School in Al-Khobar under the auspices of the Embassy in Riyadh. The school would follow the standard Philipine Education Curriculum.
PESA got its recognition after its Temporary Permit granted by the Philippine Government under DECS Recognition No. 01 s. 1995 signed by Secretary Ricardo T. Gloria of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS) on January 31, 1995. It was awarded its host license to operate on 1415/12/29 (May 8, 1995) with Saudi Permit No. 2/1937.
In compliance with the permit issued by the Ministry of Education (MOE), where foreign schools should be named as international Schools in addition to the country of nationals served by the school, PESA was renamed in SY 1995-1996 to聽鈥97成人视频鈥. (originally acronym as IPS Al-Khobar)聽and currently known to the Filipino Community in the Kingdom as聽鈥淚PSA鈥 (Member: Saudi Arabian International Schools).
On April 20, 2012, IPSA renewed its Government Recognition No. SP-002, Series 2012, signed by Br. Armin A. Luistro 鈥 FSC, Secretary of the Department of Education, Philippines.
On November 27, 2020, by virtue of Act No. 2706, as amended, Republic Act No. 10533 and Batas Pambansa Bilang 232 (Education Act of 1982), the Department of Education granted the permanent Government Recognition No. 003, Series 2020, signed by DepEd Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones.
